Fruits de Friday: Ouzo-Soaked Melon

May 8, 2015

Now that April has finally showered, dressed and caught a bus out of town, it’s officially time to relax and enjoy the natural mood-elevator known as the month of May. With a rise in temps and spirits, our appetite shifts towards the light, sweet and juicy. That winter wine-and-brie rut we fell into? It’s time for a replacement that meets our warm-weather criteriai.e., one that can be consumed in a hammock while reading a magazine. So we combined aperitif with appetizer and splashed ouzo, the anise-flavored liquor from Greece, over refreshing bites of melon for the perfect cocktail-snack.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED¾ cup honeydew, cantaloupe and watermelon scooped with melon baller

1 ½ ounces ouzo

Fresh mint

HOW TO MAKE IT
Add the melon balls to a glass and pour ouzo over top. Allow to sit at least 15 minutes, or longer if desired. To serve, top with fresh mint.
